Time for silent learning with outspoken support

Time for silent learning with outspoken support

During the week of June 1-6, I muted my feeds and committed to using them to focus on the experience, knowledge, and resources being shared by the Black community. Lifting up Black voices and to become a more informed ally.

Centering the voices of Black and non-Black POC in discussions of race and racism in this country absolutely makes sense. Many of us are waking up to something they have experienced, understood, and been trying to tell the rest of us for years. Wondering why it took so long for us to wake up.

This is overdue. It is also overdue for us to make our perspectives and support known. As a white woman, leader, and mother to a POC, I want to be crystal clear in my position.

If I am not actively trying to address and resolve systemic racism, I am part of that system, benefitting from it, and complicit. As a leader, member of a community, and a mother, I must do better. I owe that to my team, coworkers, neighbors and most importantly to my son.

So I will continue to listen and learn in the days, weeks, months and years to come. Yes, years, as no one can quickly undo decades of racist thought.

As a leader and mother, I am committed to sharing resources and the voices of POC. Moving forward there will be a shift in my thinking, writing, and leadership to help provide spaces that are more inclusive. I will use my platform to further this important discussion. It is up to all of us to LISTEN. LEARN. REPEAT.
