We are closing in on the end of the year and it’s about that time. Time to assess how the year has gone. Whether we’ve achieved the goals we’ve set for ourselves and our teams.

Looking back at an amazing year feels really good. Knocking goals out of the park like a streak of home runs…who wouldn’t want that?

If they are all home runs, however, maybe our park is too small. Maybe it’s time to go up against the green monster. Time to up our game.

What is better, achieving 100% of an easy goal, or 80% of a difficult one?

It is natural – and often our performance targets incentivize this thinking – to want to achieve our goals. Instead, let’s challenge conventional wisdom. Realize that it’s better to go big and fall a little short, than to play small and win.
